asterisk is operated by auth1ery, an individual based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. when these terms say "we", "us", or "our", that's who it means.

these terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. any disputes arising from these terms or your use of the service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Alberta, Canada.

these terms apply to the instance hosted at asterisk.authsrng.xyz only. self-hosted instances are governed solely by their own operators.

by creating an account or using asterisk you agree to these terms. if you don't agree, don't use the service.

accounts belonging to users under 14 will be terminated and their data deleted. we reserve the right to request age verification at any time.

you need a username (2–20 characters, letters/numbers/underscore/hyphen) and a password (minimum 6 characters). usernames are unique and case-insensitive. you are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under your account.

• ›we reserve the right to rename or terminate usernames that violate these rules, with or without notice, at our sole discretion.

we may suspend or permanently delete your account with or without notice, at our sole discretion, for any violation of these terms or for any other reason we deem necessary to protect the service or its users. you may request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us.

• ✕post or share content that is illegal under applicable law.
• ✕share content that sexualizes minors (CSAM) in any form. this will result in immediate termination and reporting to relevant authorities.
• ✕harass, threaten, or intimidate other users.
• ✕post content designed to incite violence or hatred against individuals or groups.
• ✕spam, flood channels, or deliberately circumvent rate limits.
• ✕attempt to exploit, hack, or disrupt the service or its infrastructure.
• ✕upload malware or files intended to harm other users.
• ✕impersonate administrators, moderators, or other users.
• ✕scrape or automatically extract user data from the platform.
• ✕share another person's private information without their consent (doxing).

we may remove any content at our sole discretion, with or without notice, for any reason including but not limited to violations of these terms. moderation is discretionary and we make no guarantee that all violating content will be found or removed.

you retain ownership of content you post. by posting, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store and transmit that content solely for the purpose of operating the service. to the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for user-generated content.

you are solely responsible for the content you post and any consequences that arise from it.

you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless auth1ery and any associated parties from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or relating to: your use of the service; your violation of these terms; content you post or upload; or your violation of any third-party rights. this obligation survives termination of your account.

you may upload images, videos, and text files up to 8 MB each. accepted types: JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, MP4, WebM, Ogg, plain text. uploaded files are visible to anyone who can see the message they're attached to. do not upload files containing sensitive personal information or content that violates these terms. we may remove uploaded files at our discretion without notice.

nodes are private group chats. node owners are responsible for moderating their nodes and ensuring members comply with these terms. we reserve the right to override node moderation, remove nodes, or remove users from the platform if a node is used to facilitate violations, regardless of what a node owner permits. we are not responsible for moderation decisions made by node owners.

rate limits are applied per account to maintain service quality for everyone. the specific limits may change over time. attempting to circumvent rate limits via scripts, multiple accounts, or other means is prohibited and may result in suspension.

asterisk is provided as-is, with no guarantee of uptime or availability. the service may be interrupted for maintenance, updates, or circumstances outside our control. we reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time, with or without notice.

to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, auth1ery shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the service, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of content, or service interruptions.

in no event shall our total liability to you for any claim arising from these terms or the service exceed CAD $0 — the amount you paid to use the service, which is free.

asterisk's source code is released under the MIT license and is available at github.com/auth1ery/asterisk ↗. the MIT license governs use of the software itself. these terms govern use of this hosted service. they are separate things.

we may update these terms at any time. the "last updated" date at the top will reflect the latest revision. continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
